Art on the Edge

About the special exhibition

Art on the Edge will be on view from September 2 until October 22, 2006. The special exhibition features a wide range of contemporary paintings, sculpture, and works on paper—new art acquired by Joslyn over the last thirty-odd years. Expanding beyond the gallery walls, the exhibition includes the 1994 building addition as well as five sculptures on the Museum grounds and in public areas. Works in the exhibition represent themes that are both timely and eternal, from the glorification of pop culture seen in Pop Art to pure painterly expression, as well social issues such as war and poverty.

9/8/06. Musicians: You may use any of the works now on view in the special exhibition (located mainly in the Pavilion Galleries, Galleries 11-17) for your song. In addition, as stated before, artworks not located in these galleries, but also considered a part of the Art on the Edge exhibition include: two sculptures by Dale Chihuly (in the Atrium); three sculptures located outside the building by Kenneth Snelson, Scott Burton, and George Sugarman; and the new wing of the Joslyn Art Museum building itself. Each of these additional works may be used for songs as well, as initially stated earlier this summer.
